    The newly refurbished electrical and electronics labs are opened up to schools on Wednesday afternoon on a first come first served basis. Students are able, with the support of technicians, to build heart rate monitors and test circuit boards. The session is aimed at introducing students to the basic concepts of electrical and electronic engineering and encouraging them to think about this subject at Higher Education.

    Similar to the geomatics kit loan scheme, loans of Civil Engineering equipment are a very recent addition to the outreach portfolio from the School of Civil Engineering and Geosciences. To date, loans have focussed on equipment from the Water Resources Engineering subgroup, providing tools to support river studies.

    A series of workshops which explore technology in the marine environment. Students get the opportunity to see facilities such as the towing tank and cavitation tunnel.


  • Satellite navigation and GPS (the Global Positioning System) is becoming an increasingly important part of our everyday lives.  But what makes the system work? 

    The Physics of Staellite Positioning is fascination.  From Keplerian Elements and relativistic problems, through to power supplies and time, Physics is core to being able to find our position with satellites.

    This session will introduce the Physics involved in Satellite Positioning and allow your students to get outside and hands on with some GPS equipment.
