The Inspiring Seas Project

Livening up the Key Stage 3 National Curriculum with fascinating fishy tales and phenomenal physics and technology

The Inspiring Seas project is a partnership between the School of Marine Science and Technology at Newcastle University and NYK Group Europe Ltd.

Our teaching resources put theory from the National Curriculum into practice, by providing pupils with real-life insights into marine science and technology issues that require practical solutions. As such, we aim to develop and maintain young peoples’ interest and engagement with Science, Design and Technology, and Citizenship related subjects.

Hands on - A year 7 pupil from Longbenton Community College gets up close and personal with a marine alien during our Science and Engineering Week celebrations Creative effort - Three year 7 pupils from All Saints College put their artistic talents into action, based on their rocky shore adventure

The Inspiring Seas project has already had tremendous success in engaging young people with fishy facts and activities. From outreach initiatives, such as our exploration of marine aliens as part of National Science and Engineering Week, to our NYK enterprise interaction day, we have provided first-hand experience of our weird and wonderful watery planet to school groups nationwide.
